What is Rosewood ?
This is a little tree, PAU ROSA, which is in the Brazilian Forest. The rarity of this tree explains, in part, the price of the furniture where this veneer is applied.
The rosewood is a very dense wood, with its warm tones ranging from pale to dark pink.

What is Marquetry ?
This is a mosaic decor made of different colours woods which covers the frame of the furniture.

How is made the Marquetry ?
The different pieces which composed the Marquetry are cutted, in woods of different colours, with a fine veneer saw, following a drawing.
All pieces are as a puzzle and, after hot sand treatment, are carefully assembled and inlayed in the blank of the rosewood panel, skilfully cutted to the exact size of the motif.
After, the rosewood panel is gluing on the frame of the piece of furniture.

How obtain the relief of a Marquetry motif ?
We obtain the relief or shading of the motif, by hot sand treatment. Each motif is plunged, with tongs, in hot sand, till the burning gives the wanted colour. The imperfections of the veneers are reduced by the sanding.

What is the frame work of the furniture ?
This is the technical term which designates the carcass of the piece of furniture. The frame is in massive wood. The sawyer uses : oak, mahogany or chestnut.

How many persons for the manufacture of furniture ?
Several craftsmen intervene in the processes : drawer, sawyer, inlayer, cabinet-maker, wrought- iron makers, lacquer, marble mason…
Most of these craftsmen always apply the specific techniques to their Art, transmitted from generation to generation.
